A new software for remote access to the LonWorks network expands the field of application of the Easylon PC-LonWorks interfaces by Aachen based Gesytec GmbH, leading provider of connectivity products for the LonWorks automation network: The Easylon Remote Network Interface (RNI) allows TCP/IP communication from remote client PCs with a PC connected to the LonWorks network.
No special devices required, just by using the mostly existing PC within a LonWorks network the Easylon RNI software allows network management, status monitoring, maintenance measures and, download of modified programs from the office PC without making a trip to a remote and sometimes long distant plant.
The communication between the PCs is realized via standard TCP/IP connection. The software installed on the client virtually simulates the actual interface board of the LON PC (server), thus enabling access to the LonWorks data either via corporate LAN or Internet. However, while using the Internet delay times, hardly assessable, should be considered, making little sense to use an OPC or DDE server for permanent real time monitoring. The Easylon PC-LON interfaces by Gesytec are available for ISA Bus, PCI Bus and PC/104 systems and, for USB connection. They can be used under both, Windows (including Windows CE used in Embedded Systems) and Linux systems. For industrial applications version for expanded temperature range and with protective varnishing are available. The RNI software can be used free of charge with Easylon Interface boards.
