Light on, light off – easily per SMS. What sounds futuristic is actually reality. Not within homes, as you may first think, but on streets. The municipality of Lemgo is currently demonstrating this concept along a 2 km stretch of road. The idea for the project came from a concerned father who wanted to ensure that his children would safety make it home at night. Along this stretch of road, which many children frequent, the street lamps where being switched off to save energy. The children were not able to be / did not want to be picked-up by their parents. With this new system parents simply need to register with the municipality and can then activate the street lights for 15 minutes by simple SMS. Such simplicity can offer so much security.
A Delta 300, which is built into the system, makes it all possible. The box receives SMS-based switching commands, which then turn the streetlights on for a predefined period of time.
Any house owner is full of „effervescent“ joy when his sewage pump station fails and he initially isn’t aware of the problem. Preferred timing for such incidents is during vacation time, but a weekend off with heavy rainfalls might be sufficient as well.
But there still is a chance to inform the neighbors and take action: A simple monitoring with alarm to the cell phone, such as via Delta 300. You might as well talk to your plumber and arrange for direct notification. The compact unit can be used for monitoring of the motor, the pump and the water level within the sewer. It not only measures the motor temperature sending out an alarm when the temperature is dangerously rising but also notifies when the motor fails.
It is clear that device monitoring may not only concentrate on this special issue but there are also other installations within a house that may cause annoying damages. Therefore the safety aspect can be included in such a monitoring and alarm function. This procedure provides a crucial advantage compared to monitoring units operating with alarm only as one can also be immediately correctly notified during absence.
Treatment of industrial sewage water is a delicate issue. In Germany companies are obliged to take care themselves of the treatment of sewage water from industrial use, subject to strict regulations regarding environmental protection. Thus, monitoring the sewage water quality is essential.
In a foundry however, monitoring is not an easy task. Usually no infrastructure for monitoring and alert is available at those premises. As monitoring of the entire plant is not required a solution only monitoring a part of it is sufficient.
Standard alarm systems mostly are not suitable for these applications. And the fact that the responsible staff has also to be alerted when they are not on site makes the task even more difficult.
The Delta 300 provides the perfect solution. It is especially suitable if the existing infrastructure shall not be affected or even no infrastructure at all is available. Once the water quality falls below the unit automatically sends an SMS to the stored numbers. Daily or even hourly status reports can also be realized.
Monitoring distributed and far afield water supply stations can be a problem. For a difficult to access pump station in the mountains there should be a simple and reliable communication and a device which can reliably operate without maintenance requirements of its own.
In such situations the Delta 300 is the perfect solution. Communication takes place by SMS and the device itself is very frugal with respect to power requirements. A cell phones battery’s capacity is sufficient to operate it for months. Depending on the local circumstances either supply by battery or usage of an emergency power battery is possible. In its adjustable stand-by mode, only interrupted by cyclic life sign SMS, it may even run for a year without necessity to change the battery. In combination with a solar panel durability can be enormously increased.
